We are pretty excited about returning to The Blue Bayou on July 10. It’s one of our favorite places to play. Judging by the support they got a month or so ago, we are happy to know that it’s one of your favorite places, too. We are going to dig into our back catalog to bring out a few gems we haven’t performed in a while, as well as a few new songs you likely haven’t heard before. Two jam-packed sets starting at 9:30 PM.

Some new live tunes from the last Bayou show

Here are a couple tunes (on our music page) that came from the last Bayou gig. One is a tune from ‘First Thing Smoking’, our in-release project, and one is brand new!

The New Thing - Recorded live in September, 09 at the Blue Bayou Club, originally on ‘First Thing Smoking’.

On the Run - A new tune, rough edges evident! This is an answer to the call to play something ‘Hendrixy’, so it has something of a Band of Gypsies feel, along with the requisite rotary and wah guitar tones. This one is one we are trotting out for occasional live shows (when folks are really drunk in the audience and will tolerate such indulgence), but is coming along as we work it out in front of the bar crowd.

TBS 2009 Blues Challenge Videos

Here’s our set from the TBS Blues Challenge for 2009. This was held at the Berkley Cafe in downtown Raleigh. We had a great time, and were happy to see some old friends and make some new ones! The first song is ‘The Flow’ off of our upcoming ‘First Thing Smoking’ project…

We followed with ‘Got to Go’, which is a brand new song we have not yet officially recorded…

Next was ‘Three Handed Woman’, which we had posted earlier as a live audio track from a recent gig. This is another new tune that has not yet been officially recorded…

‘Cheated You Fair and Square’ is another song off of the recent ‘First thing Smoking’ project…

And we had ‘Listen to Your Man’, another tune off of ‘First Thing Smoking’. We had to call this one on the fly because we ended up with a good bit of time, glad to be able to slip this one in…

We had a great time at the Blues Challenge, thanks to the Triangle Blues Society. Shout out to the Fat Bastards for a fine show. I bet Tim 5 bucks that his band had won, and I do intend to collect!

Triangle Blues Society Blues Challenge 2009

Best of luck at the 2010 International Blues Challenge to Bullfrog in the solo category and to Fat Bastard in the band category. These folks really were far and away the best entertainers of the evening at the Triangle Blues Society Blues Challenge last night. GRS played really well and had a lot of fun. Hats off to the winners! We hope to be back again next year.

We played The Flow, One Of Us Has Got To Go, Three Handed Woman, Cheated You Fair And Square, and Listen To Your Man. We were the sixth band out of six to play. By that time the audience and judges panel energy was waning, but they all seemed to enjoy our set. Fat Bastard really was the band to beat. The had some technical difficulties to overcome and had a great stage presence, as well as some very nice songs. Good thing they have to lay out a year before competing again.

After a few days of rain showers and torrents, it looks like the rain is past us for several days at least. Good thing, too. We have a special party to play under the stars tomorrow night for our good friend Muriel. One last gig before the TBS Blues Challenge on July 13!! If you aren’t coming to the party, we hope to see you at the Berkeley in Raleigh for the Challenge. The show starts at 8:00. Your $10 admission goes to benefit the Triangle Blues Society.

I just got a new camera, so with any luck we will have some new photos and videos to post (and use on some new poster designs) soon.

This is a new one…we have not yet committed it to a real recording yet, but why not… This new tune is called ‘Three Handed Woman‘, it’s a live track from a recent gig that we’ll probably track during the next recording session. The tune is Creative Commons licensed, free to download, share, and podcast.
